Alison joined CES in October 2006, initially completing her MSc in Sustainable Development. She is currently a PhD student at RESOLVE. Alison is looking at factors influencing sustainable consumption, specifically in the area of intra-household decision making. Her focus for this work will be centred around spiritual and emotional factors. This will build on her MSc dissertation, which was an empirical study exploring the links between consumption and spirituality.
Alison's first degree was in Maths with Engineering from the University of Nottingham, and she worked for several years in engineering related positions in the aerospace and engineering software industries, both in the UK and US before joining CES. She is also a qualified yoga teacher.
PhD
Alison is looking at factors influencing sustainable consumption, specifically in the area of mindfulness (non-judgemental present-centred awareness). Her aim is to set up an intervention whereby mindfulness training is provided, and the effects it has on values, attitudes and behaviour are qualitatively assessed. This work builds on her MSc dissertation, which was a qualitative empirical study exploring the links between consumption and spirituality.
